Coming from a long line of Southern cooks, avid griller and cook Gena Knox was in search of flavor inspiration to enhance her home cooked meals—a way of cooking that was simple, healthy, and flavorful. That’s where the cedar plank comes in.
Exploring the age-old Native American cooking technique, Gena found that cedar plank grilling infused her food with a fantastic smoky flavor, was easy to prepare, and resulted in a beautiful presentation. After one taste of salmon grilled on a cedar plank, Gena and her husband, Davis, were hooked. Wheels turned, and soon, Fire & Flavor was born.
Today, Fire & Flavor has grown to become the ultimate resource for unique recipes and all-natural offerings that easily take your home-cooked meals to the next level. We’ve also included their charcoal fire started and special steak rub in this holiday package.
Moultrie, Georgia, native Joe Kem Lacey’s barbecue sauce was inspired by what he termed as a “sauce for sauce” trade. His neighbor would give him a bottle of homemade barbecue sauce on the condition that Lacey would send a fifth of Black Velvet Canadian Whisky. Lacey thought the sauce tradition would be gone after this neighbor died, but it turns out his friend left the recipe for him.
After making some adjustments, he was able to make the sauce exactly the way he wanted. Once he was able to perfect his recipe, he started to bottle it and give to friends, who encouraged him to sell it. Joe Kem’s BBQ Sauce has since been featured in Southern Living Magazine and several other publications.
The Backyard Safari Company was founded in 2010 by husband and wife team Clyde & Sherri Hutchison. Located in Covington, Georgia, the company’s philosophy is all about spending less time in the kitchen and more time outside having fun!
