Based in Greensboro, NC, Chad's Carolina Corn is a family-owned business with one singular purpose: to make the best popcorn in the world! After working in the technology sector for many years, Chad decided he wanted to start a business that would allow him to spend more time with his family, and allow them to be a part of the business. "It is extremely satisfying to get support from and be able to support the local community," said Chad in a recent interview. The answer then slowly came into focus: start a gourmet popcorn company. So, Chad began his transformation into the Popcorn Czar, committed to making great Carolina popcorn, and not forgetting to have fun along the way!
Plains Georgia Peanuts was founded in 1988 by owners Bobby and Jean Salter. After much success in the first year, the Salters bought and renovated the old Carter's Warehouse office located on Main Street in Plains, Georgia. Now, they offer a large variety of products, including many different flavors of brittle as well as fried peanuts. The Salters use peanut oil to fry their fried peanuts and only source local peanuts for their local products!
If you’ve ever taken I-75 South to Florida, you’ve probably passed signs for the Ellis Brothers. Ellis Bros Pecans, Inc. is a family owned business in South Georgia. Their original pecan grove was purchased in 1944 by their father and mother, the late Marvin and Irene Ellis. This grove in Vienna, Georgia is the site of their retail store and main operation center. Today, they grow over 2,500 acres of pecans with twenty different varieties and are continuing to plant new trees every year. They also have a 54-acre peach orchard consisting of 25 different Georgia peach varieties!
Southern Straws is a mother/son team from Columbus, Georgia. Their recipe has been handed down through generations in the Amos family. What began as a hobby and gifts for friends and family evolved into a bakery focused on making cheese straws that taste like Grandma made them. These local products are hand-made, hand-cut, and hand-packed, and the Southern Straws team takes great pride in ensuring their cheese straws are the highest quality. Their Original and Spicy flavored cheese straws have been recognized as finalists in UGA’s Flavor of Georgia contest and the Atlanta Journal wrote an article in 2016 which stated, "Margaret Amos and her son Neal make what may be the best-tasting cheese straws in America."
