Homemade Bath Products Can’t be Beat!

As we get further into the season, days become shorter, and Halloween is right around the corner! We’ve already experienced some pleasantly chilly mornings, and soon temperatures will begin to drop. It’s an enjoyable time of year for many of us, but it’s also a time of transition, which means it’s time to prepare your skin for colder weather.

The summertime sunshine, salt water, and chlorine can wreak havoc on your skin. It’s important to repair damage and keep your skin nourished through the winter to prevent dryness. Fall is a good time to make sure you are exfoliating and moisturizing regularly. A handy tip for skin care through the seasons is to switch from lotion to cream or body butter. A great suggestion for fall and winter skin care is to use an oil-based scrub for exfoliation, which helps eliminate  dry, cracked skin. Using cream or milk-based soaps with oatmeal or shea butter can also be better for your skin care in the winter, and less abrasive than typical bar soap. These simple changes in your bath and skin care routine will leave you looking and feeling your absolute best.

DIY bath productsPumpkin Spice Whipped Body Butter

Ingredients:

1/2 cup            Shea butter
1/4 cup            Coconut oil
2 tbsp.             Olive oil
2                      Vitamin E capsules
3 tsp.               Pumpkin pie spice
1 tsp.               Vanilla extract

Directions:

Place shea butter, coconut oil, olive oil, vitamin E, and 1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice in a heat safe glass bowl. Warm in the microwave for 30 second increments until fully melted. Make sure to stir between each 30 second session.

Set on counter to cool for 30 minutes, and then place in the refrigerator until it partially sets up, about 10-15 minutes. If you leave it in too long, just set it out on the counter in a warm spot for a few minutes.

Transfer ingredients to the bowl of your hand or stand mixer, and mix until whipped and fluffy. Add vanilla and additional pumpkin pie spice mix until fully incorporated.

This does not have to be refrigerated, but doing so will result in a thicker consistency. Use on hands, legs, and feet after a shower or bath to moisturize.
