Farmview Market Nearing Completion

Share

The new Farmview Market complex is nearing completion, with an anticipated opening date of November 2015. County work crews began installing waterlines for Farmview Market, located just south of Madison on Eatonton Highway. The project, spearheaded by Kelly Products out of Covington, aims to fulfill “Georgia’s Dream of all local everything” and will feature an all-year-round specialty grocery store, butcher shop, café and a seasonal farmers market. “It’s really coming along,” said Michael Lamar, county manager, who noted the county’s unique public-private partnership with Kelly Products is paying off.

To date, Morgan County has invested $185,000 into the coming Farmview Market, a farmers market that will be owned and operated by Kelly Products. Lamar updated the county commissioners at the last regular meeting about the future costs involved in their partnership with Farmview Market, as well as the estimated return on that investment for the county.
“Morgan County government’s direct return on investment will be less than two years,” said Lamar.

Lamar reported that within the first year of Farmview Market’s opening, the estimated return will be just over $200,000 in sales and property taxes that will be generated to benefit Morgan County, which includes the school system, cities and county government. That figure does not include utility revenue for the county’s sewer and city’s water.
