Simply One of a Kind
Bo Wood Designs is a family-run company creating gorgeous, one-of-a-kind wooden pieces for the home.
The main craftsman is Bo Brisco, who was taught by his uncle to shape wood. Bo’s Uncle Philip had always crafted unique wooden objects for friends and family, and when Bo showed an interest well into adulthood, the two men began working in a shop together in Gainesville, Georgia selling their creations. Bo often jokes that if he’d learned to shape wood earlier, he could have been a millionaire by now!
Bo specializes in cutting boards that can double as serving pieces—the prettier side of the two being the display side while the flipside is ideal for cutting. They can be customized inexpensively by taking the piece to a laser engraver, who can then add personalization like monograms and dates. Bo tells us his favorite is a laser-cut Georgia Bulldog though!
“Each piece is a little bit different, and that’s what makes it special."
Bo uses many different woods, from ambrosia and cherry, to red oak and poplar, to bring color and variety to his work. His favorite wood to use is black walnut as he feels it is the most beautiful and buffs to a nice shine to offset the other woods.
All artisan boards are assembled with food-safe waterproof glue and sealed with mineral oil. Bo recommends resealing the board with mineral oil every few months by simply wiping it down with oil and a rag. All of the Bo Wood Design pieces are easy to clean and can be rinsed in hot water.
Uncle Philip still works with Bo on smaller items and continues to help him hone his craft. After Bo had perfected the serving boards, the two expanded into lazy susans, trivets and coasters.
“Each piece is a little bit different, and that’s what makes it special,” Bo says. Whether through the size, the shape or the pairing of the wood grains, each of these heirloom serving boards is uniquely made and ready for years of love and use.
