Laura and Eric Sorkin started Runamok from their family farm in Northwest Vermont with the goal of “taking maple syrup to places it had never been before.” They began by producing simple and delicious maple syrup from their 100,000 maple taps with a strong commitment to organic ingredients and environmental stewardship.
Soon the couple’s love for their premium maple syrup had them mustering up new and creative uses for their favorite food. They started by infusing Runamok Maple Syrup with traditionally warm flavors like cinnamon, vanilla, and ginger. These maple syrups are oh-so-versatile, from sweetening your morning coffee to pouring over ice cream. Customers love to use them in dessert recipes, salad dressings and to drizzle over cheeses too.
More innovative flavors soon followed with unique ingredients like hibiscus and cardamom taking center stage in those maple syrups meant for more than just pancakes. Although Runamok Maple Syrups get rave reviews from everyone who tries them, the Sorkins knew they had a great product when Oprah featured their Runamok Maple Syrup Gift Box on her List of Favorite Things!

Next, they worked with a local smoke-master to make the perfect smoked maple syrup. The Smoked Chili Pepper Infused Maple Syrup adds a dash of smokiness to veggies, fish, or other meats, and the Smoked with Pecan Wood Maple Syrup takes chilis and BBQ to the next level.
As the Sorkins continued to expand how maple syrups can be used, they had the idea to visit a friend’s local distillery and fill a bourbon barrel with maple syrup. A year later when they opened it up they knew they had a new, even cooler use for maple syrup. Now Runamok is the first in the industry to use bourbon, whiskey and rum barrel aging to make boozy maple syrups designed as cocktail mixers.
Runamok partners with several other family farms in Vermont to keep up with demand for their delicious maple syrups. For the Sorkins, part of the joy of business ownership is in protecting the thousands of acres of maple trees that make their product possible. And the extent that Runamok has grown over the years is surely due to their kind-hearted nature and dedication to hard work.
