Every Day Is Milk Day at Rock House Creamery

On January 11th, we commemorate the day when milk started being delivered in sterilized glass bottles in 1878. Milk, with its nine essential nutrients, is also a key ingredient for many of our other favorite dairy products - cheese, yogurt, sour cream, butter, and ice cream. So, let's toast this wonderful beverage, and be sure to thank the dairy farmers who produce it!

We at Farmview Market are proud to have some of the best Georgia Grown dairy producers as partners. Rock House Creamery is an artisan creamery with a big mission – to produce the best creamline milk and dairy products.

Overseeing production is dairy manager Jessica Kennedy. A former dairy inspector for the Georgia Department of Agriculture with a degree from the University of Georgia in Dairy Science, our creamery manager knows her way around a dairy.

“I enjoy using the knowledge I have gained over the past 20 years to develop new dairy products, provide quality milk for the local community, and educate the visitors about dairy products and farming.”

Rock House Creamery specializes in creamline milk, one of the most natural forms of milk. It is pasteurized, but not homogenized. Homogenization is the process after pasteurization where the milk is mixed and the cream line (or fat content) is permanently mixed into the body of the milk. Non-homogenized milk n aids the body in better digestion and helps the body properly utilize the proteins found in milk.

One of the reasons Rock House Creamery’s whole milk is so delicious is that it is high in butterfat. This is due in part to of the dairy’s cows, which are a cross of Jersey, Holstein and Swedish Red.

From this delicious milk, Rock House Creamery also makes a European-style chocolate milk. Chocolate milk has gained the recognition as nature’s recovery beverage because of its ability to replenish and refuel the body after exercise. A glass of chocolate milk 30 minutes after a workout not only replenishes carbohydrates, but the proteins found in milk, whey and casein, are best for building back muscle tissue. In addition, chocolate milk rehydrates by providing the calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium lost in sweat.

In addition, fresh and aged cheeses have become a favorite for Rock House Creamery fans. They will also soon be producing buttermilk and kefir.

Rock House Creamery products are available at Farmview Market.
