10 Ways to Celebrate National Bacon Day

If ever there was a food that deserved its own day, it is bacon. Invented in 1997 by Danya “D” Goodman and Meff “Human Cannonball” Leonard, who wanted everyone to have a common holiday to bond over in December, National Bacon Day is commemorated on December 30. And while the actual day of celebration has passed, we believe there's always a reason to celebrate bacon.
Here are 10 delicious ways to pay homage to bacon. You are welcome.

1. Put Bacon on a Burger
The words bacon double cheeseburger exist for a reason.
2. Eat Bacon for Breakfast
Sure, you can bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan to go alongside some farm fresh eggs. Or you could try a less classic combination. Crumble up crispy bacon into your pancake or waffle batter and top with a fried egg and syrup.
3. Make the Best BLT
While purists may believe that a BLT should be nothing other than crispy smoked bacon, a perfect piece of lettuce, a fat slice of tomato and some mayo on toasted white bread, we need to acknowledge the truly magical thing that happens when you introduce pimento cheese to bacon on a sandwich.
4. Use Bacon to Make Vegetables (even more) Delicious
Yes, vegetables are delicious and healthy, and baconing them up might be beside the point, but some vegetables actually do cry out for bacon the way the New Year cries out for Hoppin’ John and collard greens. Cook your greens low and slow, and use crispy bacon and bacon grease to add layers of flavor.
5. Throw Some Bacon in Your Mac and Cheese
Adding bacon to mac and cheese instantly makes it gourmet.
6. Bring Bacon to a Party
Have you ever noticed that dishes made with bacon are always the first to disappear from the buffet? Wrap bacon around artichoke hearts, blue cheese stuffed dates, or shishito peppers. Bake. Voila, party favorite!
7. Turn Bacon into Candy
Candied bacon is crispy, smoky, salty, and sweet. It is the perfect bite. It’s even easy to make. See recipe below.
8. Pour Bacon Over Your Salad
Spinach salad would just be a lonely bowl of leafy greens without the hot bacon dressing that accompanies it. Whisk crumbled bacon, bacon grease, red wine vinegar, sugar and Dijon mustard in a pot and season with salt and pepper to taste.
9. Use Bacon to Wrap Chicken, Meatloaf, Filet Mignon, and Everything Else.
See our easy recipe below.
10. Order a Rooster Biscuit for Breakfast and a Cobb Salad for Lunch
